Best Anarlog Alternatives 2026: Private, Local, Open Source
Looking for an Anarlog (formerly Hyprnote) alternative? Compare Meetily, Char and Granola on privacy, local transcription and price, and bring your recordings.

Looking for an Anarlog alternative? If you picked Anarlog (formerly Hyprnote) because it was private, local-first and open source, Meetily is the closest match. No bot joins your calls, transcription runs on your computer by default, the code is MIT licensed, and the Community edition is free on Windows and Mac.
You don't have to start from zero, either. Meetily imports the recordings Anarlog saved, transcribes them on your computer, and with Pro, labels who said what.
TL;DR
- Best Anarlog alternative for most people: Meetily. Private, local and open source, free on Windows and macOS.
- Bring your recordings. Meetily imports MP3, WAV and OGG, the formats Anarlog saves, and transcribes them on your computer.
- Know who said what. Meetily Pro names speakers, live and on imported recordings.
- Built to last. 32,000+ GitHub stars, more than three times Anarlog's, and 739,000+ downloads.
- Other options: Char if you want your Anarlog notes imported for you, Granola if you want a cloud app with phone apps.
A note from the Meetily team: we make Meetily. We've compared it fairly with the other options, using facts from each app's official website, checked on November 3 and 4, 2026.
What are the best Anarlog alternatives in 2026?
The best Anarlog alternatives in 2026 are Meetily, for private, local and open source meeting notes on Windows and Mac; Char, for moving your Anarlog notes over in one click; and Granola, for a polished cloud app on your computer and phone.
| Meetily | Char | Granola | |
|---|---|---|---|
| No bot in the call | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Where transcription happens | Your computer, by default | Cloud | Cloud |
| Open source | Yes, MIT | No public app code | No |
| Platforms | Windows and Apple silicon Macs | Apple silicon Macs | Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android |
| Price | Community free; Pro $10/user/month billed annually | Not published (private beta) | Free Basic plan; Business $14/user/month |
- Choose Char if you're on Anarlog Pro and want your old notes moved over in one step. It's made by the team behind Anarlog, but it's a different kind of product: an AI to-do notepad, in private beta.
- Choose Granola if you don't need open source or local transcription, and you want the same app on your computer and phone. See our Granola comparison.
- Choose Meetily if privacy, local transcription and open source were the reasons you picked Anarlog.

Does Meetily have everything Anarlog had?
The core of it, yes, and in a few places it goes further.
- The same: no bot in the call, transcription on your computer, MIT open source code, AI summaries with a local model or your own key, and an API, CLI and MCP for your own tools (in Pro).
- Where Meetily goes further: local transcription works on Windows, not just on a Mac; Pro costs $20 a year less; and the project has more than three times the GitHub stars.
- Not yet: a native Linux app (join the waitlist), a phone app, and in-app chat with your meetings and calendar integration, both coming to Pro.
Why is Meetily the closest match to Anarlog?
Meetily is an open source meeting notes app for Windows and macOS. It records your meetings without a bot, transcribes them on your computer, and writes summaries with the AI model you choose. That covers the three things Anarlog was known for, and it adds a few more.
Private and local, on Windows too
Meetily captures the audio on your computer, so nothing joins your Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call. It transcribes with Whisper or Parakeet models, in 99+ languages, and works offline once the models are downloaded. For summaries, use a local model through Ollama, or your own key for Claude, OpenAI, Groq or OpenRouter. With your own key, the transcript text goes to that provider.
It works on Windows and on Apple silicon Macs. That's a real difference for Windows users: Anarlog's help pages say its built-in on-device transcription isn't available on Windows.
Speaker names, even on your old recordings
Meetily Pro works out who said what, on your computer. It does this live and on recordings you import, so your old Anarlog audio gets speaker labels too. Rename a speaker once and the name updates across the whole transcript. That helps most with team meetings, interviews and calls with several people.
32,000+ GitHub stars and an active community
When you move your meeting history to a new app, you don't want to move it again a few months later. Meetily's GitHub repository(opens in new tab) has more than three times as many stars as Anarlog's: 32,433 against 9,764 on November 4, 2026. Meetily isn't new, either. Its first release came out in February 2025, and it has 739,000+ downloads since.

Stars don't guarantee any project's future, but they're a fair sign of how much interest a project has and how active it is today. Read more about Meetily as open source software.
Connect your AI tools and scripts
If you used Anarlog's API, CLI or MCP, Meetily Pro has the same kinds of connections:
- AI assistants (MCP). Connect Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Windsurf in one click, then ask your assistant about your meetings. New connections start read-only. See Meetily for AI assistants.
- Command line and local API. Export any meeting from a script, for example
meetily-pro meetings export <meeting-id> --format md. See the CLI guide. - Webhooks. Your script gets told when a recording ends or a summary is ready, and can then send the notes to Notion, Obsidian or wherever you keep them.
All of this is off until you turn it on in Settings → PRO. Pro can also detect when a meeting starts and begin recording on its own.
Meetily Pro costs $20 a year less than Anarlog Pro
For one person, Meetily Pro costs $120 a year. That's $20 less than Anarlog Pro ($140) and $48 less than Granola Business ($168). Char hasn't published a price yet. Community, the free edition, uses the same transcription engine as Pro.

Anarlog vs Meetily: what's the difference?
Both apps are open source, MIT licensed and bot-free. The main difference is how you work in the meeting. Anarlog is a notepad: you type notes and AI merges them with the transcript. Meetily takes the notes for you: it records, transcribes and summarizes, so you can stay in the conversation.
If you read an Anarlog vs Meetily comparison from earlier in 2026, it may describe an older Meetily. Pro now has MCP, a CLI, a local API, webhooks, speaker names and meeting detection.
| Anarlog | Meetily | |
|---|---|---|
| Style | Notepad you type in | Automatic transcript and summary |
| Built-in local transcription | Apple silicon Macs only | Windows and Apple silicon Macs, in both editions |
| GitHub stars | 9,764 | 32,433 |
| Platforms | macOS; Windows, Linux and mobile in beta | Windows and macOS (Apple silicon) |
| Speaker names | Manual labels free; better identification on Pro | Pro separates speakers; you name each once |
| API, CLI and MCP | Free | Pro |
| Calendar | Apple Calendar; Google and Outlook on Pro | Coming to Pro; meeting detection today |
| Paid plan | $140 a year | $120 a year |

How do I move from Anarlog to Meetily?
The Anarlog team has announced that notes synced to its cloud are deleted on November 15, 2026. Notes, transcripts and recordings saved on your computer stay where they are. Either way, a backup takes a few minutes, so do it first.
Step 1: Export your notes
- Open the meeting in Anarlog.
- Click the ••• menu and choose Export.
- Pick Markdown, and include the memo, summary and transcript.
Comfortable with scripts? Anarlog's free command line tool skips the clicking: run anarlog meetings list, then anarlog meetings export <ID> --format markdown -o <file>.md for each meeting.
Step 2: Copy your recordings
Exports don't include the audio. On a Mac, right-click the meeting, choose Show in Finder, and copy the MP3, WAV or OGG file to your backup folder. If Settings → Meetings → Audio file retention was set to a short period, older meetings may have no audio left.
Step 3: Import your recordings into Meetily
- Install Meetily from the downloads page.
- Drag a recording onto the Meetily window, or click Import Audio. It accepts MP3, WAV, OGG and seven other audio and video formats, up to 20 GB per file.
- Get a fresh transcript and summary, made on your computer.
Import Audio is free in Community and Pro. It brings in audio, not Anarlog's typed notes, so keep your Markdown exports in a folder, or in Notion or Obsidian. The audio import guide(opens in new tab) has the details.
