10,000 GitHub Stars: Thank You for Believing in Privacy-First AI

Meetily celebrates 10,000 GitHub stars - open source meeting transcription milestone

TL;DR

Meetily just hit 10,000 GitHub stars! We started this journey as an internal tool because we needed a meeting assistant that kept our client conversations truly private - on their own infrastructure, under their control. We weren't comfortable with cloud-based solutions processing sensitive discussions on external servers.

Today, 88,000+ people have downloaded Meetily, 920+ developers have forked it, and it supports 99+ languages across the globe. This incredible support from the community means everything to us.

Our mission has always been simple: bring AI to you, not your data to us. Thank you for believing in privacy-first meeting intelligence. Here's what's next.

10,000 Stars

We didn't set out to build a popular open source project.

We built Meetily because we needed a meeting assistant that didn't upload our conversations to someone else's servers. Open sourcing it was our way of giving back to the community that's given us so much - and we hoped others might feel the same way about data privacy.

Turns out, a lot of people feel the same way.

Today, Meetily crossed 10,000 GitHub stars. The response from the community has been overwhelming, and we're incredibly grateful.

The Numbers

Let's take a moment to appreciate what this community has built together:

  • 10,000+ GitHub stars - from developers, teams, and privacy advocates worldwide
  • 88,000+ downloads - people who tried Meetily and chose privacy
  • 920+ forks - developers building on top of Meetily
  • #1 Trending on GitHub - twice
  • 99+ languages supported for transcription

Each of those numbers represents a real person who decided their meeting data should stay on their own device.

Thank You

To the early adopters who filed issues when the app crashed (and it crashed a lot in those early days) - thank you.

To the contributors who submitted pull requests, fixed bugs, and improved documentation - thank you.

To the users who told their colleagues about Meetily because they believed in the mission - thank you.

To the developers who forked the repo and built something new on top of it - thank you.

To the teams who chose Meetily over polished cloud alternatives because privacy mattered more than convenience - thank you.

To everyone who starred the repo - even if you haven't tried it yet - thank you. Every star tells us we're building something worth building.

How We Got Here

The journey from zero to 10K wasn't a straight line.

Version 0.0.1 was macOS-only, required CMake and Python, and needed a separate backend server running alongside the app. Our own team complained about it.

Today, Meetily is a single-click installer for Windows and macOS. Transcription runs locally with Whisper or Parakeet models. You choose your AI provider for summaries - local models, your own API keys, or our Hosted AI option. Everything lives in a local SQLite database on your device.

The core promise never changed: your meetings stay yours.

What's Next

Hitting 10K stars doesn't mean we're done. It means more people are counting on us to keep going.

Here's what we're focused on:

Speaker diarization - Know who said what. We have a proof of concept ready and it's one of our most requested features.

File import - Drop in an audio file and get a transcript. Simple, but useful for podcasters, researchers, and journalists.

Better local summarization - Cloud models still produce better summaries than local ones. We're working to close that gap so privacy doesn't mean compromising on quality.

More integrations - Calendar sync, custom templates, and better export options based on what you've been asking for.

We let our users guide the product. Every feature is built based on real feedback from people actually using Meetily.

The Mission Hasn't Changed

Every week, another AI product launches with "privacy" somewhere in its marketing. Most of them still upload your data to their cloud.

We took a different approach. Meetily exists because we believe:

  • Your meeting recordings should never leave your device
  • You should choose which AI processes your data
  • Open source is the only way to prove "privacy-first" actually means something
  • Good software doesn't require giving up your data

10,000 stars tells us this matters to you too.

Star Number 10,001

If you've read this far but haven't tried Meetily yet, here's your sign. Download it, try it with your next meeting, and see what privacy-first actually feels like.

And if you're already a user - share it with someone who needs it. The best growth we've ever had is word of mouth from people who genuinely like the product.

Here's to the next 10,000.
